Julie Bigford and Madison Whitaker were invited to attend the career day at Liberty and Heritage Elementary for River Valley Local Schools on Thursday, February 29th. The event was for 5th-grade students. The kids were divided into 20 groups with 6-10 kids per 8-minute session. We were happy to bring science fun to the kids and they enjoyed learning about the composition of water, the many different pH results of solutions, and how water can affect the pH. We let the kids guess what products we were testing and guess the final pH result. We tested water, vinegar, and baking soda dissolved in water. Almost all the kids guessed milk for the baking soda, and they were surprised at the final pH value. All the kids were very engaged, and we had a great time teaching them!
